How We Work

Driven by the desire to make a difference and inspired by other great 100+ Women Who Care groups around the United States, Canada and the world, we have created a local philanthropic group of fabulous women who are capable of doing great things in our community.

100 Women Who Care Boston North is a members-only giving circle, a form of participatory philanthropy where a group of individuals donate their money to a pooled fund. Together, the group decides where to give their contributions in order to achieve greater impact for the deserving local charity. We are a group of women who love to GIVE. The 100 Women Who Care Boston North chapter and its events are run by an Executive Committee of big-hearted volunteers along with the assistance of community sponsors.

What does this look like?

Quarterly meetings occur the second Tuesday in March, June, September and December. The nomination and voting process is reserved for members only. Each meeting ends with $10,000+ given to the non-profit organization with the most votes.

The one-hour virtual meeting starts promptly at 6:30 pm with a check-in from 6:00 - 6:30 pm when we are meeting in person. In addition, here are the details:

  • Four times per year our members show up ready to give BIG

  • Each member has the opportunity to nominate a charity. There are eligibility requirements and nominations must be approved at least two (2) weeks prior to the next quarterly meeting

  • Each member or member team agrees to contribute $100 quarterly - no exceptions

  • A week before each meeting, three (3) nominated and approved charities will be randomly drawn "from the hat" and members are notified

  • The nominating members or the executive director from the non-profit will be asked to make an informal presentation of up to five (5) minutes -- no PowerPoint, though you may bring collateral materials to share.

  • The members whose charities are drawn must be in attendance. If a member or executive director cannot be in attendance, another charity will be drawn

  • Members will have the opportunity to ask questions after each presentation (roughly 5 minutes)

  • After the presentations and Q&A, an anonymous ballot is held and the charity with the most votes is the recipient

  • Two-way ties will be decided by one more round of votes. If a tie persists, the two names that are tied will go back "in the hat" and the recipient will be drawn at random

  • Members may vote in abstentia by emailing 100womenbostonnorth@gmail.com 24 hours prior to the event

  • Immediately following the meeting, members mail their check made out to the chosen organization C/O 100 Women Who Care 8 Francis Way Salisbury MA 01952

  • All monies collected will be presented to the executive director or representative of the chosen organization

  • The nominating member of the chosen organization will be invited to present the check donation to the executive director along with the Executive Committee and other members

  • Members not in attendance must mail their check immediately after the meeting

  • The selected charity will be invited back to the next meeting to share with members the BIG impact the collective donation has made

Guidelines on Organizations

  • The selected organization is not eligible to be nominated/presented again for three (3) years. The member may nominate a new non-profit for consideration at future meetings. The other two (2) non-profits may be nominated/presented again at future meetings.

  • The selected non-profit must agree not to give out member information to any third parties or add them to their mailing list for future solicitation.

  • The selected non-profit must agree to send charitable tax receipts to our members. Members are responsible for ensuring their current address is on their check or submitted to the Executive Committee if they want a receipt. Tax receipts are provided by the non-profit directly to the members. 100 WWC is not responsible for sending the tax receipts to members.

  • Boston North area organizations (see eligible towns) with 501(c)(3) tax deductible status are eligible and agree not to solicit or share names or other information about 100 Women Who Care members. No political, national, or religious organizations may be nominated.

Like to see us in action first?

Feel free to attend any meeting as a guest. We do ask that guests register. If, while you're at the meeting and would like to donate to any of the non-profits you are welcome to do so. However, you must be a member to vote at any giving event.
