How it Works

Driven by the desire to make a difference and inspired by other great 100+ Women Who Care (WWC) groups around the United States, Canada and the world, we have created a local philanthropic group of fabulous women who are capable of doing great things in our community.

100 Women Who Care Boston North is a members-only giving circle, a form of participatory philanthropy where a group of individuals donate their money to a pooled fund. Together, the group decides where to give their contributions in order to achieve greater impact for the deserving local charity. We are a group of women who love to GIVE. The 100 Women Who Care Boston North chapter and its events are run by an Executive Committee of big-hearted volunteers along with the assistance of community sponsors.

What does this look like?

Quarterly meetings occur the second Tuesday in March, June, September and December. The nomination and voting process is reserved for members only. Each meeting ends with $10,000+ given to the non-profit organization with the most votes.

The one-hour meeting starts promptly at 6:30 pm with a check-in from 6:00 - 6:30 pm. Pre-registration is required for each quarterly event.

  • Four times per year our members show up with a blank check in hand to give BIG.

  • Each member has the opportunity to nominate a charity. There are eligibility requirements and nominations must be approved at least two (2) weeks prior to the next quarterly meeting.

  • A week before each meeting, three (3) nominated and approved charities will be randomly drawn "from the hat." The nominating members, or the executive director from the non-profit, will be asked to make an informal presentation of up to five (5) minutes (no PowerPoint; you may bring brochures/collateral materials to share). The members whose charities are drawn must be in attendance and available to present their charity to the group. If a member or executive director cannot be in attendance, another charity will be drawn.

  • Members will have the opportunity to ask questions after each presentation.

  • After the presentations and Q&A, an anonymous ballot is held and the charity with the most votes is the recipient.

  • All monies collected will be presented to the executive director or representative of the chosen organization.

  • The nominating member of the chosen organization will be invited to present the check donation to the executive director along with the 100WWC Executive Committee and 100WWC members.

  • Each member agrees to contribute $100 quarterly - no exceptions.

  • Members not in attendance must send a blank check with a trusted friend to the meeting or mail their check to one of the chapter's Executive Committee members before the meeting or immediately after the meeting.

  • Each voting member must check in at each meeting.

  • If you are absent, you may vote using the RSVP form no later than 24 hours prior to the event.

  • The selected charity will be invited back to the next meeting to share with members the BIG impact their donations have made.

  • The selected organization is not eligible to be nominated/presented again for three (3) years. The member may nominate a new non-profit for consideration at future meetings. The other two (2) non-profits may be nominated/presented again at future meetings.

  • Two-way ties will be decided by one more round of votes. If a tie persists, the two names that are tied will go back "in the hat" and the recipient will be drawn at random.

  • The selected non-profit must agree not to give out member information to any third parties or add them to their mailing list for future solicitation.

  • The selected non-profit must agree to send charitable tax receipts to our members. Members are responsible for ensuring their current address is on their check or submitted to the Executive Committee if they want a receipt. Tax receipts are provided by the non-profit directly to the members. 100 WWC is not responsible for sending the tax receipts to members.

  • Note: Donations made directly to the selected non-profit and/or online donations do not count toward the member's commitment.

Want to observe first before joining? Please feel free  to attend any meeting as a guest. If, while you're at the meeting, you would like to donate to the selected non-profit you are welcome to do so. However, you must be a member to vote for the night's selected charity. Our Membership Registration & Commitment Form will be available for anyone wishing to become a member. Individuals must have a completed Membership Registration & Commitment Form on file prior to nominating a charity.

Boston North area (see below for eligible towns) organizations with 501(c)(3) tax deductible status are eligible and agree not to solicit or share names or other information about 100 Women Who Care members. No political, national, or religious organizations may be nominated.
